We recently completed all of our Thanksgiving holiday pet sits and boy were we busy. As always there were plenty of dogs and kitties to look after and we all had a great time.
There was one concern I had however, that I want to share with you. Many of the cats we look after are very curious and precocious. Since most of the time we are only doing one 30 or 2- 30 minute visits a day, the cats are on their own the majority of the time. Without human supervision, they can easily get into trouble if there are interesting "things" left about for them to investigate or try to eat. Since our number one goal is to keep the pets we care for healthy and safe, I would ask and remind all pet guardians to ensure their homes are tidy and kitty- proofed before they leave. I have often found things on the floor that would be very dangerous to a pet if ingested.
We do a look around when we arrive each visit to make sure there is nothing visible that can be of danger to the pet, but sometimes, the homes we visit are "untidy" and it is almost impossible for us to ensure the pet will not get into something he/she shouldn't. Rest assured, I am not passing judgment here. This is not about housekeeping, this is about safety. And I know you all want to come home to healthy happy pets.
